We embrace the traditional style of a building's heritage just as equally as we do contemporary style and sometimes marry the two to create comfortable, easy living spaces that retain their original features, including roof beams and stonework. This larger cottage for guest accommodation at the Asturias health & wellbeing retreat project is a perfect example of this marriage made in heaven.
Originally a barn for hay and cows, when we first arrived at La Laguna to begin its reformation from cowshed into cottage, there was still evidence of the building’s former ‘residents’ from over 200 years previously. So, we were truly starting from scratch. The building also still had its original roof beams which were such an important feature to retain and, although quite a feat we managed to rebuild the roof without disturbing the original beams.
