Our clients wanted to visually unite the guest accommodation with the main house, as well as design an abundant garden that would give the feeling of expanse, create outdoor space for all the family and merge the garden into the surrounding forest.
We installed a green roof to merge the top of the house with the guest accommodation and constructed a pergola to provide shade from the sun during summer. The client also requested that we add freshness to and soften the look of the home's main entranceway, so we placed sandstone slabs and planted greenery in the spaces between, as well as plant shrubs in the spaces and against the walls in a biophilic style.
We reformed the garden by constructing traditional stonewalls and planted for colour and abundance, using a mixture of shrubs, grasses and flowers. The client specifically wanted a classic date palm tree and a vegetable patch, as well as some areas for games, so we installed a pétanque court and a ground-set trampoline.
Pathways and steps are an often-overlooked element of garden design but there are many ways to create aesthetically interesting options. Stone slabs with spaces in between for planting gives function and softens the look between the man-made and the natural.
The finished result is a sun-filled, modern Mediterranean landscape that feels expansive, blends beautifully with the surrounding forest and serves as a functional space that all the family can enjoy whether relaxing, entertaining or playing.
