We were asked to transform a one-room studio into a multi-disciplinary space, perfect for modern city living. Drawing inspiration from New York with Ibiza and Chinese design features, opulent teal blue and yellow touches around the apartment bring a sumptuous yet fresh feel to the space.
Creating ‘rooms’ within this one room studio flat was achieved by separating each area for living, sleeping, cooking and bathing. Bringing feng shui principals to the design maintains a flow throughout and creates an intimacy in each space, without any ‘dead ends’.
There was a small vestibule area at the main entrance to the studio apartment which we painted in a warm golden yellow. Here, we also created an internal arched door in order to give a feeling of space and a smooth transition through to the rest of the apartment.
Every inch of space was considered, so a screen between the kitchen and bedroom became a shelving area and a bookshelf was born out of a narrow space between the vestibule wall and the kitchen counter.
The bedroom area benefits from mirrored storage units, giving the feel of space and the bed is a suspended wall-bed, a popular choice in New York where space is a premium.
A compact kitchen is a focal point with plenty of concealed storage space in which to prepare healthy meals, plus a snug area overlooking the city below, for lounging and dining.
Biophilic principles weave through the interior with indoor planting and window boxes to bring a sense of place and balance. The finished apartment is transformed into a modern yet cosy home.
